The majority of respondents (79%) were female, between 20 and 50 y old (65%), had 1–4 children (63%), and were considered socioeconomically deprived (80%). Results: A total of 83 EBFBCPs were delivered and 516 participants enrolled, with 296 completing both baseline and postintervention questionnaires (57% completion rate).
Conversely, African American children with the common Gc1F/1F genotype showed no significant response to vitD supplementation (56.4 ± 22 vs. However, these differences were determined to be closely associated with the presence of the Gc1S VDBP allele, and children with the Gc1S/1S genotype had the largest response to vitD supplementation (113.4 ± 45 vs. 64.4 ± 21 nM P < 0.01) and, as has been shown before, Caucasians had a significantly higher vitD status than African Americans and Hispanics.
In the study population as a whole, serum 25(OH)D levels were significantly higher in children who took vitD supplements compared with those who did not (78.0 ± 32 vs. Results: Dramatic disparities in the frequencies of the 6 VDBP genotypes were seen between African American, Caucasian, and Hispanic children (e.g., 75% of African American children had the Gc1F/1F genotype, not found in Caucasians 30% of Caucasians had the Gc1S/1S genotype, not found in African Americans).
